I grew up eating this coffee cake. It is delicious! I have tried many coffee cake recipes over the years but I always come back to this one. It tastes especially good with a hot cup of coffee or tea. When I make it for breakfast I serve it with something savory like bacon and eggs. Have a blessed Saturday!
Coffee Cake:
1 1/2 c flour
3/4 c sugar
2 t baking powder
1 t salt
1/2 c milk
1 t vanilla
1/4 c melted lard
1 egg
Topping:
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c lard
1 t cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cake ingredients together in a large bowl. Pour into a greased 8x8 square pan. Mix sugar, lard & cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle on top of the batter. Bake 15-20 minutes.
